“What’s Your Price Per Square Foot?” Why We Don’t Have a Quick Answer—And Why That’s a Good Thing

May 14, 2025

We get it—when you’re starting to plan a new post-frame building, the first thing on your mind is probably the budget.

And it’s totally fair to ask, “What’s your price per square foot?” But if you’ve ever asked our team that question and received a “well, it depends…” response, there’s a good reason.

At Gingerich Structures, we specialize in custom buildings. That means every structure we design and build is tailored to your specific needs, style preferences, and property. And because no two buildings are exactly alike, giving a square foot price without details is like guessing the price of a new car without knowing the make, model, or features.

There’s More to It Than Size

Two buildings could be the same size—say, both 40x60—but have drastically different final costs based on the choices made during planning. Here are just a few things that make a big impact:

  • Windows & Doors: The size, type, and number of windows and doors can change the cost dramatically.
  • Concrete Work: Some customers want finished concrete floors, others go with gravel. It’s not just materials—it’s also labor and site prep.
  • Style & Design: A basic rectangular building with a single roofline will cost less than one with dormers, porches, overhangs, or multiple roof pitches.
  • Site Conditions: Is your site level? Will we need extra prep? Is it rural or hard to access with materials?

Why We Do a Full Quote Instead

We don’t believe in throwing out a square foot number that may lead to confusion or sticker shock later. Instead, we sit down with you, go over your goals for the building, talk through all the options, and build a quote based on exactly what you want. That way, you’re not guessing—you’re planning.

A Custom Build Deserves Custom Pricing

We know “custom” can sound like it means “expensive,” but in reality, it just means it’s built for you. Maybe you don’t need fancy finishes, or maybe you want to add space for future expansion. Either way, we work with your budget, your timeline, and your vision.

If you're considering a post-frame building and wondering what it's going to cost, the best step isn’t to chase square foot numbers—it’s to start  a conversation with our team. We’ll help you design something that works for you and provide a detailed quote so you can move forward with confidence.
